The principle of screw conveyance has a special significance in bulk solids handling technology. This whitepaper gives answers, using the Discrete Element Method.
The usage of the Discrete Element Method promises a lot of advantages for the calculation and design of many conveyor types and equipment for bulk solid handling. The reason for using such a numerical simulation method is the complex nature and behaviour of bulk solids in conveyors during the transportation, which can not be sufficiently described by analytical models. In this paper the results of the DEM usage for the research on shaftless screw conveyors (also known as spiral conveyors), screw conveyors and surface miners are presented.
