The majority of a mine’s operating cost is tied to the removal and transportation of the overburden waste material. A new fully mobile crusher developed reduces material handling cost by providing a direct interface between flexible trucks and cost efficient belt conveying.

Typically many large haul trucks are employed to transport this overburden from each excavating face. The trucks haul the waste material from deep within the pit to waste dumps on the surface incurring significant operational costs in operators, road construction and maintenance, vehicle maintenance staff and support facilities, fuel, tires, and spare parts, as well as the capital cost of the truck fleet itself. In addition, the haulage of the actual mined material incurs similar operational costs. In both cases, these costs grow as the mine face advances and pit haulage distances increase.
Applied Innovation
The Dual Truck Mobile Sizer (DTMS) developed at FLSmidth’s Rahco Technology Center is an innovative technical solution for today’s ever increasing cost of material handling in open pit mining while maintaining the flexibility of truck haulage and taking advantage of the operational cost savings of conveyors offering the “best of both worlds”.
The DTMS is quite unique in that it is the world’s first fully mobile crushing station that interfaces with trucks. In addition, when used in conjunction with a shiftable face conveyor, the system offers complete mobility. With the addition of an out-of-pit conveyor, truck hauls become relatively short, reducing haulage distance and the ever-growing fleet that this entails.
