With the production of the so-called „soft candy“ (think about the well-known gummy bears) a boiling, liquid sugar mix is poured into shapes that are pressed in moulds filled with starch powder. The starch is re-used continuously, but still needs to be cooled for this purpose time and again.

°Celsius recently delivered a cooling screw to one of the largest South-African sweets manufacturers which can cool starch at 8000 kg/hour from 50 °C to 20 °C. This uses a mix of water and glycol with a temperature of -2 °C as cooling liquid.

The °Celsius cooling screw is a double screw with a length of 8 meters and a height of 1 meter and it performs a buffer-function to ensure that there is always a sufficient feed of starch for filling the moulds.

This machine is the third one that has been delivered to this manufacturer in the past few years. Previously, the cooling was done with air, but this lead to major dust problems.
