For drying, heating, and cooling of pellets, granules, and powder Nara Machinery developed a paddle dryer using the indirect heat transfer principle.

Main applications of the system for organic and inorganic materials include, for example, drying and further processing of polymers, such as various kinds of PET-materials, polyacrylates, polycarbonates, or other synthetic resins. Using indirect heat transfer, the product temperature changes due to the contact between the material and the cone-shaped, rotating paddles or the inner surface of the dryer. To achieve this the heating or cooling media is guided through the shafts, paddles and shell of the dryer.

According to the manufacturer, a high heat transfer coefficient and the self-cleaning effect, created by the counter rotating paddles, result in a homogeneous product in continuous and batch production processes. Additional applications of the dryer are crystallisation and sterilisation and the single-shaft model is especially suitable for vacuum applications. Due to its compact design, the system occupies only a relatively small floor space.
