Singleton Birch has recently installed a heated Sizer screening machine to replace an older system used for separation of fines from crushed chalk.

The new machine recently installed by Singleton Birch Limited, a UK independent manufacturer of lime products, is a Type S2056EL Mogensen Sizer. The screening machine replaces an older system, which had been in service for about 28 years. The new machine, a 2-metre, 5-deck system fitted with electric heating to the two lowest decks, is handling 70 t/h of crushed chalk in the size range of 0 mm to 10 mm, and removing 63 t/h of material finer than 3 mm.

Over the past almost 40 years Singleton Birch received a total of 19 machines from Mogensen Raw Materials Handling. During this time it has been necessary to replace only two of these machines. The range of machines installed by the customer includes 0.5-, 1.0-, 1.5-, 2- and 3-metre Sizers, a couple of small conventional screening machines and two large vibratory spreader feeders. The processing duties comprise the screening and feeding of a variety of relatively fine sizes of crushed chalk and burnt lime. Most feed sizes are less than 15 mm and the separations are principally in the range 4.5 mm to 1 mm: an exception involves the difficult duty of screening of 30 t/h of burnt lime to remove 7 t/h of fines <0.15 mm.
