Mumbai, India – David Mills has been presented with the BulkSolids India Lifetime Achievement Award for his significant research contribution in the field of pneumatic conveying. The awared was presented to David Mills during the BulkSolids India 2011 Conference & Exhibition on April 6, 2011 in Mumbai, India.
Dr. David Mills is an internationally renowned expert in the field of Pneumatic Conveying Technology. He started his career as the Reactor Heat Transfer Design Engineer with Atomic Power Constructions. After working with GEC and Wellman Smith Owen Eng, he joined as a Lecturer at Woolwich Polytechnic; now called the University of Greenwich. In 1988, he was appointed as Professor of Bulk Solids Handling at Glasgow College which later became the Glasgow Caledonian University. Two years later he was given the responsibility of Chief Executive, GPE (Bulk Solids handling) at Glasgow college. He has been an Independent Consultant in Bulk Materials Handling since 1997.
David Mills has published more than 250 research papers and technical articles on this subject. He has presented short courses on Pneumatic Conveying across the globe either during technical events or as the in-house courses for various companies. He is the author of “Pneumatic Conveying Design Guide” which is one of the most widely read books in this field. David Mills is an intuitive engineer who has helped a wide range of industries solve problems related to the design, operation and troubleshooting of the pneumatic conveying systems. He has been working for industries ranging from the minerals, food, power plants to chemicals and fertilisers. He is a Member of IMechE for over 40 years. In 2003 he was appointed as Conjoint Professor of Bulk Solids Handling at The University of Newcastle, Australia and in 2010 he became the Visiting Adjunct Professor at the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa.
David Mills has been very actively working for the Indian industry since 1981. In association with Dr. Vijay Agarwal at IIT Delhi, he has been largely working for the thermal power plants for pneumatic conveying of flyash. They have jointly authored a book titled “Pneumatic Conveying Systems – Design, Selection, Operation and Troubleshooting with particular reference to pulverised fuel ash” which is a valuable resource for ash handling at the thermal power stations. He is also the author of the “Handbook of Pneumatic Conveying Engineering” jointly with Vijay Agarwal and Prof. Mark Jones from the University of Newcastle, Australia.
BulkSolids India feels privileged to honour Dr. David Mills with the Significant Research Contribution Award.
