Perth, Australia – An Inferred Resource of 1.34 million tonnes of HM has been estimated for the Typhoon deposit, which will form part of Iluka’s 2010 Mineral Resources inventory. The Typhoon deposit has combined ilmenite and leucoxene of 76 per cent and a zircon content of 14 per cent. The clay content is low at 10 per cent. The Typhoon Inferred Resource represents approximately a 13 per cent increase on Iluka’s total HM resource base in the Eucla Basin. At a 3 per cent HM cut-off grade, the deposit is approximately 3 kilometres long, 80 metres to 400 metres wide, 1 metre to 21 metres thick and is located beneath 5 metres to 27 metres of sedimentary overburden. The Typhoon deposit represents the first deposit delineated as part of a brownfield exploration strategy focussed on utilising existing infrastructure at the Jacinth-Ambrosia operation and, dependent on the development concept ultimately selected, may also extend its economic life.

Iluka is also considering further feasibility planning in relation to the Tripitaka deposit which has an indicated resource of 39.5 million tonnes of material at an average grade of 2.3 per cent HM, for a total contained HM of 0.91 million tonnes with an assemblage of 65 per cent zircon, 5 per cent rutile and 18 per cent combined ilmenite / leucoxene.
