Pecem, Brazil – Cargotec has received an order for a ship unloader from the Ministry of Infrastructure (Seinfra) in Ceará State, Brazil. A decision on an order for a second, similar unloader is expected to be taken by 2011.
Constructed in Sweden and China, the Siwertell ST 940-D continuous screw unloader will be installed at a coal jetty of the Port of Pecem, Ceará State, in the northeast of the country and will be ready for use by the end of 2011. With an unloading capacity of 2400 tonnes per hour the ship unloader will discharge coal from partly loaded Capesize vessels of up to 100000 dwt. Douglas Wichers, Cargotec’s sales manager for bulk terminals, said that Seinfra chose the company’s continuous screw unloader in the first place because of its environmentally friendly unloading without dust emissions or spillages. Additional advantages of the system would be low unit weight, small size, and high unloading capacity, which would result in low demurrage costs for the bulk carriers using the jetty.
