At the Port of Huelva, Spain, a new grain reception and transport system has been installed by TAIM WESER for Terminal Marítima de Huelva S.L. The new installation includes a moving hopper, seven belt conveyors, two of them fitted with a tripper, and five transfer towers.
TAIM WESER has finished the installation of a new grain handling conveyor system at Huelva Port for the Terminal Marítima de Huelva S.L (TMH), a company specialised in general maritime transport, including storage, transport and handling and transfer of goods, loading and unloading, stowage, etc.
Following several extensions, TMH’s storage facilities at Huelva port now have a capacity of 160000 t of grain. With the new installation, Huelva port, one of the main bulk ports in Southern Europe, has now also increased its competitiveness in terms of grain handling technology.
Following the completion of a no-load test phase after a six-month assembly period, the new grain conveyor system is now up and running. The new grain handling system includes a moving hopper, seven conveyor belts, two of them fitted with a tripper, and five transfer towers.
The grain handling chain starts at a receiving hopper that is supplied with raw material from the ship’s holds. The motorised and mobile 250 m3 capacity hopper is running on a rail track and designed to feed the downstream conveyor system with a maximum capacity of 1500 t/h.
The hopper includes a reversible extraction conveyor belt at the outlet, which tips the product onto the receiving conveyor belt at one of ten fixed loading points. Each of the loading points, which are installed with a distance of 20 m between them, has a loading chute mounted at an angle that keeps dust emission to a minimum. This arrangement has already been successfully used at other maritime terminals equipped with grain handling systems supplied by TAIM WESER.
The conveyor system consists of seven 1600 mm wide belt conveyors which transport the grain via transfer towers to the warehouse. The complete belt conveyor system including weighing apparatus has been designed for a capacity of 2000 t/h of grain with a density of 0.75 t/m3 and 2000 t/h of soya flour with a density 0.6 t/m3.
At the end of the handling chain, two tripper conveyor belts deposit the material into two 300 m long warehouses divided into five sections, to store the material in accordance with the client’s preferences and needs.
In order to leave a free space without height restrictions for vehicle traffic, at a certain point of the conveyor chain TAIM WESER included a specially designed retractable telescopic system. With this solution, the conveyor belt section in question can be temporarily moved out of the way, leaving a 21 m wide passage for vehicles to pass through without worrying about any height restrictions. Finally, also in accordance with the client’s requirements, one of the transfer towers includes a high-precision weighing system to control the mass of the transported product.
TAIM WESER is the result of merging the two companies TAIM-TFG and WESER ENGINEERING GmbH under a single brand name.
