Advanced 2D Radar for Rough Environments - Positioning, Volumetric Measurement and Collision Avoidance

Newly developed radar scanners who “see and feel” what is happening in the mine provide a core technology which can be used for different applications. The scanner itself is a compact box with an IP 66 housing milled out of a full aluminium block. It provides it's data through different interfaces, fitting exactly to needs of an application and into an existing infrastructure.

Currently the international demand for raw materials gains a strong increase. Rising prices for commodities incentivise the development of new mines and force productivity enhancement of existing operations. For existing as well as new operations, a high potential for productivity increasing is reducing downtime and optimizing the mass flow within the mine and the port, which can be archived by general process transparency. In the past, process transparency could not archived due to a lack of suitable sensor systems providing process data. Operators and advanced PLC systems have to “see and feel” the processes. Sensor systems based on laser or ultrasonic are not suitable due to the tough environmental conditions in the mines and the ports. 1D Radar Scanners do not provide enough data for automation or assistance systems. Overall it can be stated that in the past reliable process information at many points in the value chain of mines could not be archived online and in real time. Newly developed radar scanners who “see and feel” what is happening in the mine provide a core technology which can be used for different applications. The scanner itself is a compact box with an IP 66 housing milled out of a full aluminium block. It provides it's data through different interfaces, fitting exactly to needs of an application and into an existing infrastructure.
