Cimentos de Moçambique announced to invest around USD 250 million in a new cement plant in Moçambique.

Lisbon, Portugal – Cimentos de Moçambique has a cement production capacity of 3.1 million tons and a current workforce of 1,200. Cimentos de Moçambique already has two grinding units and licensed limestone reserves in Nacala, Moçambique, and it now advances to the integrated production of cement in the region. From 2018, it will have a kiln that will permit the production of 1.5 million tons of cement per year, thus replacing imports of clinker.

The new capacity to be installed increases the efficiency of the response to local demand for cement, while Cimentos de Moçambique recognises its role in driving the sustainable economic development of the Nacala region. The implementation of this production capacity will be carried out in partnership with an international supplier. Its financing structure does not jeopardise the ongoing deleveraging process of Cimpor.

Cimentos de Moçambique is owned by Cimpor, a member of InterCement, currently the world’s 8th largest international cement manufacturer. With a decisive presence in South America (Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay) and strategically focused on developing its operations in Africa (Mozambique, South Africa, Cape Verde and Egypt), Cimpor, a member of InterCement, also holds an export platform, which currently from Portugal, allows the optimization of its production capacity response to the international market demand and prospects for new markets.
